Evaluation, Reporting and Documentation Services at the

LaQue Center

Test specimens are often evaluated and photographically documented before, during and after exposure.  Evaluations range from very simple visual examinations to sophisticated analytical work performed with unique, and often complex equipment.  Where available, ASTM and other applicable organizational evaluation standards are used.  LaQue Center employees have been performing such evaluations for over 65 years.

For weathering tests we perform visual examinations (denoting blistering, checking, cracking, chalking, dirt, mildew, fading, etc.); gloss measurements; adhesion; image analysis evaluations; and other custom and standard evaluations as required by individual programs.

For corrosion tests we perform visual examinations (denoting nature of corrosive attack, locations of attack, degree of attack, color of corrosion product, quantity of corrosion product, etc.); pit depths; mass loss; image analysis evaluations, etc. as the program requires.  Stereomicroscopy, metallography and scanning electron microscopy are also routinely employed in the evaluation of corrosion test specimens.

For decades, the LaQue Center has used its extensive 35mm photographic systems to document the fine details of test specimens and components. Written reports have been augmented with the highest quality traditional prints. More recently, we have added extensive digital imaging equipment to enhance our photographic documentation services: digital cameras; film scanners; flat-bed scanners; and continuous-tone, photo quality color printers are all available in-house to facilitate immediate transfer of information. We can provide our clients high quality, immediate, electronic images via the internet or removable media (zip discs, jazz discs, CD-ROMS, etc.). Whether you prefer traditional, halide-based, hard-copy photographic prints or instant, print-on-demand, electronic images--the LaQue Center will meet your photographic needs.

Test report formats are program dependent. Most outdoor exposure test reports are summarized with a "form report" that includes information such as (1) description of material/component tested, (2) exposure dates and duration of test, (3) test location, (4) climatological data associated with test period and (5) exposure angle and type of exposure. Other tests require narrative reports that include the aforementioned information as well as other information unique to the program.
